PUPILS from Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College visited The Lawns Nursing Home to entertain residents.

The youngsters from the school's Youth SVP group sang Christmas carols and popular Christmas songs for the festive season.

Year 7 pupils Evie Satchwell, Molly Morgan and Laila Butterworth said: "Many of the residents sang along with us and as they did so, the smiles on their faces brightened up our day.

"After the concert we were able to mingle with the residents and listen to their life stories.

"We learnt that one of the residents had been a teacher at Cherry Orchard Primary School which many of the Youth SVP went to in their younger years.

"For her retirement present from the school she received a hockey stick dressed up as Santa Claus."

They added: "Some of the residents were not able to leave their rooms so we went upstairs to visit them.

"We talked to people who were ill and had to stay in bed and when we went into one of the rooms they were talking about Saint Nicholas and how they celebrate Christmas in the nursing home."

Many students had taken cakes and a chocolate log which they shared with residents and their carers.

The pupils have been invited to return in February.

The visit took place on Thursday, December 18.
