A SUCCESSFUL charity darts night raised hundreds of pounds for a hospital breast unit.

Roger Morris, aged 78, came up with the idea for a fundraising night at the New Inn in Ombersley Road in 2016, after he was treated for breast cancer at the unit.

The Grange Avenue resident has described treatment there as absolutely wonderful, and has wanted to fundraise to give something back.

Sadly, Mr Morris' cancer returned in early 2017, so he had a session of chemotherapy that appeared to halt the cancer.

Mr Morris said: "Most men do not understand that men can get breast cancer the same as women, maybe not as aggressive but still the same.

"It was a great shock when it returned as I thought they had removed everything, the other problem is they removed the Lymph glands from under my left armpit, so now I have Lymphoedema in my left arm and have to wear a compression sleeve."

The fundraising night featured a match between New Inn A and B sides, with prizes including a meal for two and Cava, a bottle of wine and a Worcester Warriors shirt.

Overall an impressive £608 was raised for the Worcester breast unit Haven, with £305 raised on the night and a further £308 from further donations from Mr Morris' family and friends.

Bill Elsy won the competition, second was Richard Turgoose while Mr Morris finished third.

Mr Morris added: "I would like to say a great big thanks to everyone who participated and donated money, and a big thanks to 'Iron' Mike, landlord of the New Inn."
