WORCESTER residents are being urged to read important letters they should have received about bin collection changes.

Letters have been sent out by Worcester City Council and residents are asked to read them and and take note of the changes on when black and green bins are emptied.

The changes come into force from Monday, January 29. From that date recycling and refuse collections will still take place on alternate weeks, as is currently the case, but the waste collection day will change for some residents.

The city council has split bin collections into city zones, with black and green bin collections taking place in different parts of the city during the same week. Currently all black bins are collected across the whole city in a single week and all green bins are emptied the following week. Around half of city households will see no change to current arrangements.

Chairman of the authority's environment committee, Councillor Joy Squires, said: “The letter will tell you important information about whether there are changes to your bin collections.

"You might need to put your bin out on a different day, or your green bin collection might be a week later than usual, so this letter really matters.”

Councillor Alan Feeney, vice chairman of the environment committee, added: “I want to reassure people we never make changes to your routines lightly, but we know that this will bring huge benefits to the city.”

Residents are reminded bins or sacks should be placed out by 7am on the day of collections.

The letter includes a calendar of collection dates and also explains how they can look up their collection date at worcester.gov.uk/recycling-waste.
