SIR – When are the readers of Worcester News, who, on recent election results mostly vote Tory, going to realise what a totally incompetent bunch they have saddled us with?

A while back they halved the number of university places for nurse training. Everybody with a grain of common sense foretold of the consequences on future nurse numbers. Did they listen? No they did not.

Then to compound the incompetence they withdrew the bursaries that [had] meant that nurse training was free.

Now prospective nurses have to pay large fees which are deducted from their future earnings. Who would want to be a nurse?

We are finding that out by the current 40 per cent shortfall of nursing staff.

The latest manifestation of this is that Oxford hospitals are, in effect, having to ration chemotherapy to cancer patients.

What a shocking state of affairs.

We, as a country, spend less on our Health Service that the vast majority of other western nations and yet the current government can afford to give billions away in tax cuts to the wealthy.

They keep saying the are giving record amounts to the NHS but this is a blatant lie.

I say wake up to the citizens of Worcester and realise what you are slowly losing and put pressure on your Tory MPs to stop sitting on their hands and make them put pressure on their government to rectify this situation at the risk of losing their seat.

TERRY JAMES
