A SUSPECTED robber has had his case adjourned - after his toes had to be cut off.

Adrian Sharp, accused of conspiracy to rob, was due to stand trial in Worcester Crown Court this Monday (January 22) but the case was adjourned because of the defendant's health problems.

Sharp, aged 52, of HMP Hewell did not appear at the hearing at Worcester Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday) after it was revealed he had gangrene in his foot.

Timothy Harrington, prosecuting, said Sharp had already had two toes amputated and the chances of him being fit for Monday were 'slim'.

Judge Nicolas Cartwright said: "The real reason the trial simply can't be listed on Monday of next week is that Mr Sharp has had to be taken from prison to hospital. He has gangrene in his foot. He has had toes amputated and it seems there's a significant risk he might need further surgery."

The trial was rescheduled for April 18 and the custody time limit extended to April 20.
