Bishampton mast protesters to take campaign to company bosses

PROTESTERS against plans to install a mobile phone mast in the village of Bishampton are to take their fight to the firm's headquarters.

Around 60 villagers will descend on T-Mobile's offices in Hatfield later this month in the on-going row over the siting of the mast.

T-Mobile has refused to change its mind on where to site the planned 15-metre mast despite villagers trying to convince them to re-position it away from homes.

Paul Littlehouse, spokesman for Bishampton Against the Mast, said: "We are going to stage a protest outside their headquarters in the hope it will make them take notice. This is something we are extremely passionate about and we will continue our fight."

The campaigners are also planning a fundraising event on Saturday (AUG 4) at the village hall in Bishampton, near Pershore. There will be a bar and barbecue, bouncy castle and disco at the event, which runs from 4pm until late.

Mr Littlehouse said: "We hope everyone will come along and support us and help raise funds for our campaign. Entry is free and there will be something for everyone."

Villagers are fighting the scheme because they fear a risk to health from emissions. Action group members point to a newspaper report which condemned T-Mobile for not heeding a warning about the alleged dangers of cancer from mobile handsets and masts.

T-Mobile spokesman John Shaunnassy previously said the company had commissioned four reports on the subject and only one was of the opinion there could be a problem.

He also said the three other sites proposed by villagers are not suitable.
