A TELEVISION dancing star has been in Worcester to officially open the new home for All Sorts Performing Arts.

Warren Bullock, star of Channel 5's Baby Ballroom that gives an insight into the lives of top junior ballroom couples, dropped into the popular theatre school on Sunday to open the permanent base at Medway Youth and Community Centre.

Worcester Municipal Charities has helped support the move to the Medway Road-based centre for All Sorts, which has built a reputation for offering musical theatre, singing, cheerleading and drama classes.

The school is run by qualified teachers and hardworking volunteers, and will continue to also run care home performances, after school clubs, workshops and the popular annual pantomime.

Numbers have grown at the school, with 60 children, 10 to a class, on Saturdays.

Mr Bullock said: "It's great to be here in Worcester to open this new dance studio - it certainly is a good space.

"Dancing is a great social skill. It teaches discipline, co-ordination, rhythm, and I think is is a great thing for the community.

"With the success of Strictly Come Dancing and our show - I think dancing has seen a real surge of interest, from children and adults alike.

"People are attracted to the glamour, the excitement of it.

"It they start at an early age, for some people it stays with them for life. Once you learn how to dance you never forget."

School principal Stuart Inglis said: "We needed this move, it is a great opportunity for us.

"We wanted a permanent base that we can grow.

"We want to grow the space, build a stage and lighting, and do children's parties. We are applying for funding for that.

"This is going to benefit the community a lot, the social integration - it's life skills for the children.

"We also offer a behind the scene course, building scenery, doing costumes. It's not just about being on stage."

The centre is being shared with Worcester Action for Youth - which run a youth club and toddler group.

The school is welcoming new members, from age three to 16-years-old, with spaces particularly available during the week.

The club is also looking for new volunteers to support them, and sponsorship.
