WORK to re-tarmac a section of Bridge Street following a water leak, is causing “heavy congestion” during Friday rush hour.
One lane at the top of Bridge Street, at the junction with Deansway and All Saints Road, is blocked with temporary traffic lights in use, causing extra congestion.
One side of the main traffic light crossing is also not in use.
An eye witness said: “It’s Friday afternoon, people are trying to get home. There’s heavy congestion. It’s causing chaos.”
Speaking at the scene, a Severn Trent Water workman said they were re-laying tarmac on a section of Bridge Street, after engineers had dug down to fix the leak earlier today.
He said the tarmacking work would be done by around 5.30pm but would then take around an hour to set, when the road would be fully re-opened.
