RENAULT has responded to a dad’s claims that the company “nearly killed my son”, after he wrote the message on a car which he parked outside a Worcester garage.

A white Renault Twingo with the words ‘Renault nearly killed my son’ displayed on both sides in large blue letters, and ‘Lethal Renault’ on the bonnet, was parked in Isaac Walk, near to Renault Hylton in Bromyard Road, less than a fortnight ago, after previously being left outside the garage.

Renault told the Worcester News that the car had been involved in a “low speed accident” and that the owner, Max Windsor-Peplow, aged 17, of Lye, who works in Worcester, said there was a manufacturing defect.

Renault UK spokesman said: “Mr Windsor-Peplow contacted us to say that his Renault Twingo had been involved in a low speed accident, and he alleged a manufacturing defect.

“As safety is of paramount importance to Renault UK, we despatched a very experienced representative from our technical department who inspected the car on November 17. No manufacturing defect was found that would have caused this accident. The customer has informed us that the car is fitted with a data recorder for insurance purposes and that this will prove his version of events.

“This data has been requested by Renault UK but has so far not been received. Without any further information, we advised the customer to contact his insurance company as is the usual course following a road accident.”
