A WOMAN in her 70s was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Hallow.

The woman, who was on foot when she was hit, suffered a head injury and a leg injury and was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, according to West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The crash took place on Main Road near Hallow CE Primary School around 5.30pm.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We were called just after 5.30pm to Main Road, Hallow, to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian."

She added: "We treated a woman in her 70s who had suffered a head and leg injury.

"She was given treatment on scene, immobilised and taken by land to hospital."

She said an ambulance and paramedic officer went to the scene while an air crew from the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham - with a critical care paramedic and a doctor on board - also travelled by car to the crash scene.

The air crew travels by car in certain situations - at night, for example - and would have been carrying medics with additional skills.

A police spokesman confirmed police officers were also there, describing the woman's injuries as 'non-serious.'

The road was closed in both directions with West Mercia Specials tweeting a warning to say the crash was serious and advising drivers to try and find a different route at around 6.45pm.

The crash led to slow traffic between Worcester and Holt Heath, with problems both ways on the A443 between Greenhill Lane and Shoulton Lane, but the road was reopened by 8.30pm.
