A GROUP of volunteers are appealing for donations to help fund their work in a city park.

The Friends of Fort Royal Park and Commandery Gardens rely on contributions to put on regular events, such as the annual 'Band in the Park' concert.

Fort Royal Park was the scene of the final battle in the English Civil War and was last year named as one of the best green spaces in the country.

Amanda Hancock, secretary of the group, said: "Last year we held our biggest ever event in the park. The One World in Our Park festival in August 2017 had a full day of entertainment.

"Ranging from Morris dancing to Zumba and ending with Worcester Festival fireworks."

Lynn Denham, chair of the Friends of Fort Royal Park and Commandery Gardens, said: “We would like to put on a similar festival [One World festival] on a smaller scale in August 2018 but unfortunately we don't have enough money in the bank.

“Last year's One World festival was funded by a Big Lottery Fund grant.

“All our events are free to attend which the group thinks is important. We depend on donations and selling refreshments to pay the bills.”
