A MAJOR plan for more than 2,200 homes in South Worcestershire will be brought before Wychavon District Council on Thursday.

In 2013, an application was submitted for a £500 million development including 2,204 homes, a hotel, shops, primary school, health surgery, businesses, sports centre, parks, allotments and acres of open space.

The bid is for land between the St Peter's area of Worcester and Kempsey, as well as areas near Norton and Whittington and land near Bath Road in Worcester.

The plan, which spreads across three council wards, will go before Wychavon planners this Thursday, Worcester City Council planners on Thursday February 22 and finally Malvern Hills District Council planners on Wednesday March 7.

The recommendation for Wychavon and Worcester councillors is to delegate authority to Malvern Hills planners, with most of the scheme in the Malvern Hills catchment.

Malvern Hills planners are recommended to approve the scheme.

The south Worcester scheme, which we exclusively revealed was first on the cards in 2013.

The land forms part of the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP), which earmarks land for 28,370 homes in Worcester, Malvern and Wychavon by 2030.

If accepted by the council, it will take around 15 years to complete.

The development will see fields opposite the Southern Link Road bounded by the A4440, Norton Road, Broomhall, the M5 and River Severn being developed section-by-section, stretching from fields behind the Ketch car boot sale all the way to Kempsey.

Developers say that almost 2,000 jobs would be created by the development should it be passed.

This would include 1,600 permanent jobs as well as around 290 construction roles during the 15 years it could take to complete.
