A MAN suffered life changing injuries following a head-on crash near Burley Gate yesterday.

The crash on the A465 between Hereford and Bromyard happened just before 2.15pm yesterday when a silver Volkswagen Golf, travelling eastbound towards Burley Gate and a silver Toyota Yaris travelling westbound towards Hereford collided.

A man in his 30s, who was driving the Golf, was taken to hospital in Hereford and later released with what were reported to be minor injuries.

The driver of the Yaris, also a man in his 30s, remains at hospital in Birmingham with what have been described as ‘potentially life changing injuries’.

A closure on the road was in place until around 8.25pm while the vehicles and debris were cleared from the area.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, ambulance staff found two cars that had both suffered significant front end damage.

“A 37-year-old man had to be freed from one car; he had significant pelvic pain as well as pain in his chest area.

“He was immobilised, had a pelvic binder applied and was given pain relief before being airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where doctors were awaiting his arrival.

“The 39-year-old man driving the other car appeared uninjured but due to circumstances of the crash, he was taken to Hereford County Hospital for further assessment."

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, or anybody that saw the manner in which the vehicles were being driven beforehand.

Additionally, if you have dash cam footage of the incident please call police on 101, quoting reference 341s of 5 February.
