Friday Update: The M5 between Droitwich and Worcester reopened at around 1am this morning after a serious crash last night. 

Firefighters from Droitwich, Bromsgrove and Redditch were called in to help make the vehicle safe after the crash. 

A symbol led diversion was in put in place for a period, before the road reopened at around 1.30am.

A SERIOUS crash closed the M5 between Worcester and Droitwich this evening (Thursday, February 8). 

Traffic was stuck due to the smash on the M5 Northbound between Junction 6 A449/A4440 Warndon Way/A4538 Pershore Lane (Worcester) and Junction 5 A38 (Droitwich /Wychbold).

A southbound lane is also closed due to the crash.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, Highways England officers and West Midlands Ambulance Service are at the scene. 

The site is due to clear at about 10pm. The crash happened at about 8pm. 

Tweeting from @BromsgroveCops, a Bromsgrove Safer Neighbourhood Team spokesman said: "A serious collision has closed the M5 in both directions between J6 Worcester and J5 Droitwich. Please avoid."

A spokesman for Highways England said: "Traffic held in both directions on the M5 between J6 Worcester and J5 Droitwich. All emergency services are on scene to deal with serious collision. Delays building."
