FIND out how you could cut your energy bills at a special event run by Worcester Citizens Advice Bureau and Worcester Housing and Benefits Advice Centre this week.

Expert advisers will be on hand in Crowngate Shopping Centre in Friary Walk from 10am-3pm on Friday, February 16, to help people make their homes energy-efficient.

It is part of the national Warm Homes Campaign, backed by city MP Robin Walker and run by fuel poverty charity National Energy Action. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the problem of fuel poverty and put forward some possible solutions for people struggling to heat their homes affordably.

This winter, working-age individuals and families on low incomes have been facing a combination of stagnant earnings, rising inflation, limited welfare and high energy prices, according to the campaign organisers.

These households have little or no safety net and the gap between a fuel poor household’s income and what they need to spend to meet the essential cost of living can be as much as £9,000.

Worcester City has a fuel poverty rate of 12 per cent compared to 10.4 per cent nationally,” said Steve Hemming of the bureau, "At this event we’ll offer expert advice and aim to help people save money on their energy bills.”

There will be practical hints and tips on how to insulate your home as well as ways of getting a better deal through shopping around.
