WORCESTER'S MP and Brexit minister Robin Walker is not one of four MPs reported to have received death threats, possibly from Remain supporters.

However, he condemned the threats, calling them "completely unacceptable."

Police are investigating a threat received by leading Brexiteer MP and leader of the House of Commons Andrea Leadsom.

The typed message included the threat: “We have watched as you have lead us to the edge of the abyss. We will watch no longer. You have taken lives on our side. Now we will take lives on yours. We are coming for you.”

The message was signed: ‘The Real 48 Per Cent.’

Mrs Leadsom tweeted a picture of the threat calling whoever sent it a ‘coward’.

Another three MPs are said to have received similar threats and MP Zac Goldsmith tweeted that a Brexit-supporting constituent of his also received the same message signed in the same way.

Mr Walker, a minister at the Department for Exiting the EU, campaigned for the remain side in June 2016.

He said: “I think a lot of Remainers think that they have been on the right side of the rhetoric, but this really damages that idea and I don’t think it does their cause any good at all.

“Any threat is totally unacceptable, but using the name The Real 48 Per Cent seems to be an echo of the Real IRA and it was the Real IRA who set off the Omagh bomb, which killed a lot of innocent civilians.”

Mr Walker said Damian Green, the former First Secretary of State under Theresa May, had previously received similar messages.

He added: “I think we should always try and debate with people politely, and there’s been some ugly rhetoric on both sides, but death threats are an entirely different level and completely unacceptable.”
