Street-cleaning vans in Worcester will be doing their little bit for cleaning the air in the city as well

Two new vehicles have been bought by Worcester City council, and they run on electricity, replacing two polluting diesel-powered vans.

They will be used in the city centre and across all the neighbourhoods of Worcester.

Councillor Joy Squires, Chair of the City Council’s Environment Committee, said: “The diesel vans we were using were over 14 years old and were really showing their age. With all the issues around pollution from diesel vehicles, we felt going fully electric was the right approach to keeping our city clean.”

Councillor Alan Feeney, Vice Chair of the City Council’s Environment Committee, said: “We’re proud to be bringing these environmentally friendly vans on to Worcester streets to help ensure streets are looking spic and span. Hopefully the sight of them will inspire other employers and drivers to go electric too.”

With a range of 106 miles, the two new vehicles will be recharged at two electric charging points installed at the Council’s Warndon depot and another at the Guildhall. These are in addition to two rapid charge points already in place at St Martin’s Gate car park, ensuring that the vehicles will never be more than a few miles from the nearest charging point.
