A MAN has died after being hit by a train at Sandwell and Dudley station.

An ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Hazardous Area Response Team were sent to the scene after a call at around 7.10am.

A West Mildands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The train had stopped about half a mile down the line towards Birmingham.

"Ambulance staff worked with British Transport Police officers at the scene. 

"Unfortunately, it was immediately obvious that nothing could be done to help the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene."

West Midlands Railway advised passengers travelling between Wolverhampton and Birmingham to use Midland Metro and NXWM buses to continue their journeys, due to the incident.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police, confirmed the fatallity, adding: "Officers were called shortly after 7am and attended alongside paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service.

"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

"This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

The line, which shut between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton due to the incident, has now reopened, but West Midlands Railway has warned of delays.
