A WOMAN in her 60s nearly missed important hospital appointments because of damage inflicted to her car by nails left in the road.

Diane McNab, who lives in Ploughman's Rise in Droitwich, was ready to drive to Worcestershire Royal Hospital only to find that three of the tyres on her car were completely flat.

Several motorists had already complained their cars were damaged around the weekend of February 10 and 11, the same time Mrs McNab's tyres were punctured.

She is one of many residents who live in and around Crofters Way that have been forced to pay for new tyres and puncture repairs recently.

Mrs McNab said: "A lot of cars are usually racing along that road so I don't know whether someone is throwing something on the road to try and stop them from doing it or whether it is kids doing it.

"They could have fallen off a lorry, you just don't know.

"Whoever it is, it is is becoming a nuisance now. It's a nightmare."

Mrs McNab was travelling home when she believes she drove over the same stretch of Crofters Way that was littered with screws, nails and roofing tacks.

The damage caused by the metal objects meant the 62-year-old had to pay around £240 for replacement tyres and put three crucial visits to Worcestershire Royal Hospital in jeopardy.

"My husband blew the tyres up on Sunday but when I went to get in the car on Monday they were as flat as a pancake again," she added.

"I can't work at this moment in time and my husband is working all the hours he can.

"It's something we're having to pay for now that we can't afford and shouldn't have to be paying for.

"It's an expense that we don't need.

"I'm always at the hospital so it's a real inconvenience.

"Luckily, I did find someone who could take me to the hospital but then that's an inconvenience for them.

"Obviously the appointments are very important to me and that week was a busy week."

Nails in the road near the Westlands estate is not a rare occurrence.

We reported an incident in December 2017 which caused damage to several vehicles as well as incidents earlier in the year.

Police were made aware of the incident on February 10 and the Droitwich Safer Neighbourhood Team are asking anyone with CCTV in the area to see if they captured any evidence of who put tacks in the road.

Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
