PARISH council chiefs have called for the bridge over the A4440 to be completed before any more of the 300 homes to be built in Spetchley can be passed.

Outline planning permission for up to 300 homes was passed in 2015 in Swinesherd Way, Spetchley with a reserved matters application for the second stage of set to be heard by Wychavon District Council on Thursday, for 113 new homes.

The first stage saw 91 homes passed in 2016.

The application includes a cycle and pedestrian bridge to cross the A4440, which Whittington Parish Council want built before any more houses are put up.

Worcester City Council also asked for the cycle bridge to be built before anymore homes are.

Susan MacLeod, chairman of Whittington Parish Council said: "There is scant detail regarding the bridge over the A4440 and this should be forthcoming before the development as proposed can be approved.

"The Parish Council also believes that the bridge should be completed before the any other development begins to ensure the safety of residents.

"The bridge is currently referred to in the applicant’s proposals as a “foot and cycle” bridge, yet the development site is also served by a number of bridleways and therefore the proposed bridge should be of a design and construction to cater for equestrian uses too."

The site forms the middle section of development between phase 1 to the north and phase 3 to the south of the site. A grassed bund is located between the A4440 Swinesherd Way and the west of the site.

The proposal includes the provision of 68 open market houses and 45 affordable houses.
