ZUMBATHON dancers showed they had the moves as they got into a groove for a 'party in pink' to raise money for Worcester's breast unit.

Fundraisers danced their way through a charity Zumbathon last month to raise more than £1,600 for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven (WBUH).

Organised by local Zumba instructor Stella Thomas, the ‘party in pink’ brought together 70 people to get their hips moving and grooving at Perdiswell Leisure Centre on January 14.

The two hour danceathon was led by Stella, assisted by special guest UK Zumba jammer Katerina Vlataki, alongside local Zumba instructor Laura Bonell.

Dancers donned pink outfits for the occasion, held a cake sale to boost the funds and many of them were sponsored from their work place, friends and families to raise £1664.47, all for Worcester’s Breast Unit.

WBUH provides vital services to women and men from across the county and relies on fundraising to ensure it can continue to offer invaluable support.

Event organiser Stella Thomas said: “I am so glad everyone who participated on the day had a lovely time and at the same time to raise a good sum of money for the breast unit.

"The dancers were amazing and full of energy. Thank you so much to everyone involved for coming along to support such a vital cause.”

Alexandra Craigie, fundraising manager for WBUH, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people come together on the day dressed in pink to dance and raise money for our charity.

“We’d like to thank everyone who took part, those who sponsored and of course Stella, Katerina and Laura for the fantastic Zumba and organising such a brilliant event.”

Around 600 people in Worcestershire are diagnosed with breast cancer every year and one in three women will see a breast cancer specialist at some point in their life while one in 1,000 men will develop breast cancer.

The Worcestershire Breast Unit has been open since 2016, and is a vital source of support to patients undergoing investigation or treatment for Breast Cancer.
