PART of a major city centre road is to be closed overnight for nine evenings whilst work to repair a damaged bridge is carried out.

Tolladine Road, from the junction with Sheriff Street to the junction with the B4205 will be closed between 11pm and 6am for the nine nights - not including Saturday and Sunday whilst Network Rail repair damage to the railway bridge following recent crash.

A diversion is in operation via Sheriff Street to the junction with Newtown Road and the B4205.

A notice on the Worcestershire County Council website reads: "De-vegetation works to structure spandrel.Brickwork repairs to arch following vehicle strike."

Previously, in February we reported that a lorry crashed into the railway bridge, causing bricks and debris to fall into the road and the crash caused rail delays for up to an hour.

This is not the first time the bridge has been damaged by a lorry, previously, the structure was struck twice in less than a month on November 21 and December 12 2014.
