AN evening of fun and glamour in Worcester raked in staggering £23,500 in memory of a four-year-old girl who died of a rare cancer.

More than 300 people attended the Ladybird Ball, in aid of Worcester-based charity the Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust held at Sixways Stadium, the home to Worcester Warriors, in Hindlip on Saturday, March 17.

The charity was set up in memory of Grace Elizabeth Kelly, from Crowle, who passed away in November 2014 from a rare childhood cancer called malignant rhabdoid tumour.

The trust is working to help save the lives of other children with cancer by funding research, providing education, raising awareness and working towards an earlier diagnosis for children with cancer.

The charity also provides support for families.

Grace's mother Jennifer said: "Just over 300 people attended the ball and a wonderful evening followed.

"We are delighted to announce that an incredible £23,500 has been raised for the Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust for childhood cancer awareness and support.

"The funds raised will help enable us to continue our vital work in memory of Grace. It means a lot that we can continue Grace's wish of helping other children.

"We were delighted to be joined by two of our oncology families who we have helped as well.

"We would like to take this moment to say thank you to everyone that helped in any way. To the people that came on the night, our brilliant volunteers, those who bought raffle tickets, sourced auction prizes and our fantastic sponsors."

She added: "I would like to thank in particular the amazing ball planning committee of Victoria Billings, Michelle Nolan, Gemma Guscott, Emma James for their time and dedication in making this the most wonderful event. You have been absolutely fantastic and we could not have done it without you."

Mrs Kelly also praised compere Colin Mason, who donated his time, and The Marquee Company of Worcestershire LTD who decorated the venue for free.

During the event, hugely popular national cover band the Chip Shop Boys provided musical entertainment.

Nicol & Co, Arbikie Gin, Market Link and the Marquee Company of Worcestershire Ltd, sponsored for the event.
