THE seniors had to endure tricky conditions in their popular Race to Bransford winter final.

A sizeable field found conditions soggy and soft underfoot but the fairways and the the greens had stood up well to the onslaught of rain and snow.

It was the culmination of the regular end-of-the-week stableford roll-ups organised by Mike Kemp with points awarded for placings in each through the winter.

These go forward to be added to each competitors’ score on the final day providing they have played in enough qualifying events with a separate competition for those who hadn’t.

This was won by Mike Weaver with 36 points as he finished one ahead of Dave Parry and two in front of Chris Cale.

The Race to Bransford winter title went to Graham Wilks with 43.5.

He was well ahead of Bill Bowen on 38.8 and Gerry Rebbeck on 37.5.

Gerry McCurry managed 37.4, Alan Cockill 37.2, Rob Lawrence 35.7 and John Phillips 35.4.

Meanwhile, the Worcestershire seniors started their friendlies with a resounding win over The Rolls Of Monmouth on a wet morning with the course only just playable.

Captain Andy Peet and Tony Cox led the team off with an impressive 6&5 win.

Despite scoring an eagle on the first and a birdie on the 18th, Sam Macleod and Ron Gordon were beaten 2&1.

But this was to be the only win for Rolls as The Worcestershire recorded impressive wins for Keith Hitchcock and Peter Kirton 6&5, Stan Jones and Roger Blackwell 2&1, Barry Caswell and Neil Hide 2&1 and Ron Barker and John Davison 2&1.

Wet conditions underfoot and freezing temperatures meant a reduced field in the RNLI three clubs and a putter stableford.

Some good scores were still returned with Cox edging out Peter Jolley for second with both on 31 points. Alan Smith scored on every hole to accumulate his 35 as a clear winner.
