THE new Pickersleigh Community Garden will be officially opened next week.

All are welcome at the opening, which takes place at 10am on Wednesday, April 4.

Doing the honours will be Cllr Val Myatt, one of Pickersleigh's representatives on Malvern Hills District Council.

There will also be family activities between 10.30am and noon including an Easter egg hunt, crafts, face-painting and games.

The garden is on a piece of formerly unused land off Elgar Avenue and is being transformed by a team of volunteers.

It will provide a much-needed space for events and activities such as children and adult gardening groups, interaction with local schools, educational workshops and community barbecues.

Ben Roberts, community officer at Fortis Living, said: “We are delighted that this unused piece of land has been successfully developed into a space for all to enjoy and one that our residents can be proud of. Community gardens provide a wonderful environment for people to come together.

"We look forward to a fun and enjoyable opening event and, of course, a garden we can all benefit from over the coming years.

"We now need more volunteers to come forward to help with planting and harvesting throughout the growing season. It doesn’t matter what your gardening experience is or how much or how little time you can give, everyone is very welcome.”
