GARDENERS are being encouraged to dust off their trowels, dig out their seeds and compost and start planting to ensure they can harvest their fruit and vegetables in time for the city’s annual Worcester Show.

The popular event, which attracted approximately 13,000 visitors last year, will take place in Gheluvelt Park on Sunday 12 August 2018.

There are over 120 classes to enter, including special classes for Novice fruit and vegetable growers as well as more experienced gardeners and under 18s.

In addition there are a large number of handicraft, cookery, art and photography classes, including a large range of special categories for children and young people.  All the classes are free to enter.

New classes for 2018 include the submission of giraffe-themed photography or floral decoration, to tie in with the St. Richard’s Hospice ‘Worcester Stands Tall’ public art trail.

Harriet Povey, overall under 18s winner at last year’s show, said: “I entered the Worcester Show last year as I have a love of photography and thought it would be exciting to be a part of the event.”

“Last year was my first time entering; I was a bit overwhelmed by the results because I didn't expect to win. I would encourage anyone, of any age, who enjoys taking photographs to enter the show as it's a great way to gain experience and have fun."

Gerry Leith, chairman of the Worcester Show Committee said: “The Worcester Show celebrates the amazing creativity of local people, and we’re really keen to encourage residents who’ve never entered the Show before to have a go this year.”

"Enthusiasm is the only quality you need!”

The Worcester Show has grown from strength to strength since it was first held in Cripplegate Park in 2006, transferring to Gheluvelt Park in 2010.
