A cancer survivor presented a painting to the Oncology Unit who saved his life.

Andrew Smith, 76 was treated for throat and neck cancer at Worcestershire Royal Hospital in 2009. He presented a painting of The Worcester Cathedral to hospital staff who were involved in his treatment and recovery.

Mr Smith said: "The painting will hang in the Oncology unit, and I'm pleased with it as it's an accolade given on behalf of all the throat and neck sufferers who have been treated by the Oncology unit, not just on my behalf." He said "I'm giving this painting out of our gratitude for the part they have played in all of our treatments."

Senior Nurse, and specialist, Matron Louise Pearson, formerly head and neck cancer support nurse, was involved in Andrew's care from his diagnosis until the end of his treatment.

Ms Pearson said: "Andrew is doing really well." "It's great to receive a painting for the Oncology unit. It will benefit everyone as everyone who comes in will see it. Andrew was also aided by the Head and Neck Multidisciplinary team, which consists of doctors, dieticians, counsellors and speech therapists."

She said: "It's also great that the support group has been running for a while, which gives head and neck sufferers the chance to meet up with other people going through the same thing as them."
