I tend to believe the local Labour party bigwigs when they say that they were unaware of Mandy Richards troubles in the High Court when she threw her hat in the ring to be the party’s parliamentary candidate.

It’s certainly the case that while I’d had some communications about her candidacy with a few people, while some mentioned her politics, nobody said anything about her other difficulties.

They might have checked a Twitter feed, mind.

As is the way of these things, when it was all kicking off we contacted Robin Walker, who was expecting to be fighting Ms Richards come the next general election. (Possibly in three or four years’ time. Maybe tomorrow. The PM has form in these matters.)

He didn’t want to add to the frenzy. And I wondered then what he could say.

“She’s unfit to stand, and should be replaced” would give Labour some time to get someone new in.

Possibly somebody better, with a few years to work with, and this would be all forgotten by election time.

Or he could have said: “She’s fine. She should stay on.” But that makes it hard then to have a real go when the time comes. People like me have long memories.

“Oh I suppose we're in election time, and we’ll have these spiteful things,” sighed a politician to me.

Yes we will. Especially in Worcester where quite a few pols have switched parties. And will have that brought up at elections until the end of time.

What is it with Gloucestershire? A couple of years back the Cotswolds made an abortive bid for freedom to become a unitary authority with a bit of Oxfordshire.

Now, when Wychavon councillor Margaret Rowley suggested a south Worcestershire unitary, her colleague Paul Middlebrough chucked Tewkesbury in the mix as well.

I live in Gloucs, and it’s nice and all, but not worth a campaign of conquest and annexation.

Fawlty Towers ran for 12 episode over two series. Father Ted stopped after three. Happy Days went on and on and literally invented jumping the shark.

This will be the last The Source I write. (It’s umm, complicated.) Thank you to everyone who got in touch with a tip. Thank you to everyone who read it. I sincerely hope it was as much fun for you as for me.
