A LOVED-UP Droitwich couple recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

Ahead of their time, Valerie and Clive Guest met through a dating agency and were married at St Johns Church in Longbridge, Northfield, Birmingham on Thursday, April 26 1958.

Moving to Droitwich, Worcestershire, in 1970, the couple had four children Nigel, aged 56, Ian, 54, Sarah, 49, and Mark, 46.

87-year-old Valerie still enjoys gardening and can be often found digging up weeds in the garden.

89-year-old Clive is a keen rugby fan, and he still goes to watch Worcester Warriors at the ground at Sixways Stadium, Warriors Way, with son Ian.

Clive worked as a sales director and on his retirement played an active part at Newland Hurst, Droitwich, a residential home for young adults with learning disabilities, working as chairman and treasurer.

His son Mark is Down Syndrome and lives at the home.

Valerie was a housewife and kept busy with four children.

Their daughter Sarah said the couple do not like to be be "idle".

She said: "They get out and do something everyday. They used to love walking the countryside and have a particular affection for Cornwall. It’s where we spent most of our childhood holidays."

The couple have seven grandchildren, Emma, aged 22, Laura,19, Jemma, 31, Sophie, 26, Joshua, 21, Nathan, aged eight, and Charlie, three, and one great grandchild Olivia, aged 17 months.

The pair had a special celebration The Pear Tree Inn at Smite alongside their family and friends.

They also received a celebratory card from The Queen.
