CITY motorists are facing more traffic woes as New Road is set to close for three further nights.

Worcestershire County Council said the works had been delayed by poor weather and 'unforeseen issues'.

They were set to be completed by Monday, May 14.

A spokesman said: “The completion date for the road works will be less than a week later than planned, due to poor weather conditions over the last four months and other unforeseen issues. These issues were only uncovered once excavation had begun.”

New Road will be closed to vehicles from 8pm to 6am on Monday, May 14, Tuesday, May 15 and Wednesday, May 16 for final resurfacing and white lining of the road.

During the overnight closures, there will be a diversion route in place via Bath Road and Carrington Bridge.

Overnight on Thursday, May 17 and Friday, May 18, resurfacing on the pavements will be taking place.

But the road will be open and there will be access for walkers and cyclists.

Throughout the last period of roadworks, and for a short period of time after, the right-turn from Hylton Road into New Road will remain closed. This will allow ongoing works to continue, creating a better pedestrian access into Cripplegate Park.

Works on the flood scheme will continue within Cripplegate Park without any disruption to traffic.
