THE first phase of work to improve Junction Six of the M5 at Sixways, on the edge of Worcester, is set to finish on Saturday.

From Monday, the lane one closure for the A449 southbound will be removed, and then re-instated from Monday, May 14.

As part of the improvement scheme, the roundabout, the slip roads and all the approaches will be widened.

An extra lane will be added to the roundabout and traffic signals installed on the A449 and the A4538 Pershore Lane south approaches.

Traffic management in place will include: narrow lanes on the roundabout and all approaches; 50mph speed limit, reducing down to 30mph, barriers on the M5 and A4440 approaches; a free recovery service in place on both Highways England and Worcestershire County Council network, and off-peak (8pm to 6am) full closures and lane closures.

A spokesman said: "We will put fully-signed diversion routes in place for any full carriageway closures. We apologise for any disruption; please plan and allow extra time for your journey."
