THIS is the first look at the designs for Worcester’s newest school.

The North Worcester Primary Academy is due to open in Perdiswell in September 2019.

A spokesman said: “The ultra-modern school building will use the very latest education-specific design ideas and technology, providing the optimum teaching and learning environment.”

The academy is managed by the Rivers Multi Academy Trust, whose chief executive Kate Brunt, added: “It is very exciting to be creating a new school from scratch.

“Within the trust, we are continually collaborating and sharing learnings from all nine of our schools and as such we have been able to cherry-pick some of the best features from other schools and build them into the design of North Worcester Primary Academy.

“The new building will bring many fantastic opportunities for our future pupils and our new school community.”

The school, which will be at the former park-and-ride site in Perdiswell, will take its first 60 reception pupils and 26 pre-school children in September 2019, reaching its full potential of 420 pupils of primary age over seven years.

Classrooms will be light and spacious with climate control.

Design-led room layouts will assist best teaching practice, include age-specific library areas and interconnected break out areas for one-to-one support.

Specialist subject rooms will give the space and resources for pupils to take part in regular practical activities in STEM subjects and food technology.

While a dedicated studio room will provide specialist space for music, technology and dance. There will be a strong emphasis on pastoral care and the building incorporates a nurture/reflection room to facilitate this, a spokesman said.

There will also be a full kitchen to allow fresh food to be prepared and cooked on site.

Outside, an artificial-turf area will enable children to play outdoor sports all year round, while mature trees and shrubs will provide an environment for forest school activities.

City councillors voted to sell three acres of the five-acre park-and-ride site to the government last September, to pave the way for the new school to come to fruition.
