A MUM-OF-TWO kicked a policeman in the groin after being arrested for drunkenly threatening ambulance staff who had come to help her.

Paramedics were called to Marion Simms’ address in Droitwich but then requested police support due to her volatile behaviour.

Having then been taken to Worcester Police Station, she attacked Sergeant Ian Standing after being placed on a mattress to be searched.

Speaking at Worcester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, prosecutor Peter Love said Simms, from Germany, had been on “a bender and drank copious amounts of alcohol” before medical assistance was called.

The defendant accepted charges of assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty.

Paramedics arrived at her home on Saxon Way, Wychbold, Droitwich, at around 3.15pm on April 19, before Simms arrived at the police station two hours later.

Mr Love said: “Her behaviour was volatile. She refused to answer basic questions. She refused to listen to orders from officers.”

At one stage, he said she screamed and tried to take back her trainers which had been taken off her feet and put on the custody desk.

Simms was then taken to a cell and put onto a mattress on the floor to be searched by Sgt Standing but “she lashed out with her foot, striking his testicles”.

Mr Love said, referring to a statement from the sergeant, he felt “extreme pain” but was able to continue working.

The sergeant wrote: “I am writing this statement five hours later and I am still in some discomfort.”

Mr Love said Simms did not remember anything but felt shame and guilt and was sorry if she did kick the officer.

The court heard how in October 2017 she was convicted of assault and given a 12-month community order, following a bite on a paramedic and headbutt and kick on two police officers at Worcestershire Royal Hospital – also while she was intoxicated.

In March last year she was also given a caution for being drunk and disorderly.

However, probation officers spoke highly of the defendant, saying she was engaging with her Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days, as well as attending Swanswell sessions.

Mark Harper, defending, said it was not a sustained attack or a hate crime, while her shoes had already been removed.

He said she is “completely broken” due to coercive abuse from her ex-husband, which has continued through texts and emails, while she has also recently lost her job and is about to lose her home.

Mr Love said Simms’ ex is also threatening to take her two sons Luke, 15, and Matthew, 13, to live in Sweden, where his new partner is from.

He said, “she loves her sons and wants to have contact” and the threats caused her to relapse and begin drinking.

“She is not shying away from anything, she is trying to deal with things,” he continued.

The defendant has been accepted into Seasons Rehabilitation Centre in Walsall and is currently awaiting a bed to become available to begin a six-month 12 step programme.

The court also heard how Simms is receiving support from Women’s Aid in relation to her ex-husband.

She was ordered to pay a total of £350 in fines and costs.
