A LATE night tour of Worcester's Infirmary will not be for the squeamish.

History fans can learn about the building’s 231 years of medical use and walk down the spooky hallways, which will only be more ghoulish at night.

Three museums in Worcester will stay open as part of Museums at Night, the biannual after hours festival that sees venues across the UK staying open to share their deepest secrets.

Tours of the Infirmary, Castle street, where cleaners and security guards have reported to have seen ghostly figures and heard moans and screams, will be held Wednesday, May 16.

Tours are free and will be 45 minutes, starting at 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30.

Booking is essential. Book tickets from eventbrite.co.uk/o/the-infirmary-museum-8036537711

The exhibition, documenting Worcester’s medical past includes activities such as the keyhole surgery interactive.

The Tudor House Museum, Friar Street will also be opening late giving the public the chance to explore the cellars and attics, and discover the secret architecture hidden from daily view.

On Friday, May 18, the tour starts at 7.30pm and lasts approximately an hour. Tickets are £8.97 (£8 direct from Museum)

Museum manager, Tonia Collett, said:

“People often ask what’s in the cellar or how big the attics are, and this is their chance to find out. It’s an incredible building with some beautiful hidden features. We’re really pleased to be able to open these spaces up for Museums at Night."

Where else can you peruse a Worcestershire Sauce archive than at the Worcester Art Gallery and Museum, Foregate Street?

Built more than one hundred years ago, the Art Gallery and Museum will reopen on Friday, May 18 from 5.30pm until 8pm. The aim is to attract visitors to enjoy live music, cocktails and art.

The event will include acapella group Men in Harmony.

The popular Benjamin William Leader: Blest by the Suns of Home exhibition will be open, celebrating the life, work and influence of one of the West Midland's most important painters.

No booking is required.

Helen Large, Museums Worcestershire Marketing Manager, said: "Museums at Night is a brilliant way to experience something different at a museum, or even visit it for the very first time."
