SCHOOLCHILDREN have been getting active in a bid to build healthy minds and bodies.
St George’s CE Primary School has been awarded a grant through the British Council’s, Erasmus plus programme.
That is helping to fund a two year project entitled Mind and Body, a healthier tomorrow.
So far youngsters have had sessions of yoga, mindfulness and meditation and can take part in walking a mile each day.
They have also been equipped with trackers to monitor sleep and activity for a year.
Ian Tait, from the school, said: “It is hoped that children and parents will become more aware of the need for the children to adopt a healthy, balanced and active lifestyle in their youth in order to carry this forward into their adult life. The study hopes to identify when during the week and year children are most active."
Partner schools from Sicily, Portugal, Turkey, Poland and Spain are involved in the programme and St George’s is hosting 27 children from Toledo, Spain, in June. The city youngsters will visit Spain the following week and pupils will also go to schools in Poland and Italy.
