STAFF from two local NHS organisations spent a day cycling and walking the route stroke patients take across the county.

Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust run the County’s stroke rehabilitation Centre at Evesham Community Hospital, the Community Stroke Team, (CST) and Neurology Rehabilitation. On Saturday, May 12, staff from the Trust joined together with their NHS colleagues from Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust to raise money for the Stroke Association by completing the patient journey from Worcester to the Stroke Association’s Life After Stroke Centre in Bromsgrove.

Marsha Jones, Community Services manager at Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, said: “I am so proud of all of my colleagues who took part in this challenge with me and helped to raise awareness of stroke and how one can be prevented.”

Ms Jones said: “The best way to help prevent a stroke is to eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and avoid smoking and drinking too much alcohol; these lifestyle changes can reduce your risk of problems like: arteries becoming clogged with fatty substances, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol levels.”

Throughout May, the Stroke Association hosts Make May Purple for Stroke, its national stroke awareness month to raise money, and to encourage people to show their support for people who have been affected by a stroke.
