TRAFFIC has been moving slowly in the city today due to the closure of the A4440.

The A4440 was closed yesterday eveing due to the installation of the new Battenhall Railway Bridge in the Whittington area.

The road will be closed for a week until 6am on Friday, June 1, with a diversion put in place for drivers.

There is very slow traffic in Bath Road northbound between The Hill Avenue and A44 Sidbury.

Motorists are also delayed by heavy congestion in London Road and Whittington Road between Commandery Road and A4440.

Both routes are part of the wider diversion route.

The section of Worcester Southern Link Road between Whittington and Norton roundabouts is closed.

More than 30,000 cars use the road every weekday.

Delays were also causing problems to drivers on the Newtown Road.

Readers reacted to the closure, with many saying they had avoided being caught.

Suzanne Fowler added: "Roads are so quiet today. I live and work in Norton and was expecting nose to tail traffic through the village but it’s fine."

Rebecca Tyrer commented: "Took me 45 minutes to get from Warndon Tesco to Leopard Rise, by the hospital off Newtown Road."

The railway line will also be closed from Saturday May 26 to Thursday May 31. Great Western Railway will provide replacement buses between Worcester Shrub Hill and Pershore.
