PUPILS from a city school enjoyed a visit from a member of the world’s first all diabetic pro-cycling team.

Excited year seven’s at Christopher Whitehead Language College enjoyed a talk from Thomas Raeymaekers, an ambassador for Team Novo Nordisk.

As part of diabetes week the team has been taking part in the Pedal for 7 ride - a 553 mile tour of the country, with cyclists giving talks to inspire people living with diabetes, and to promote awareness.

Mr Raeyaekers said it was fantastic to visit the school, and teach youngsters about Type 1 diabetes.

"It has gone really well," said

"Our ambition for the team is to appear at the Tour de France. If we can show up there with a team, we are showing the whole world anything is possible."

Also speaking at the event were local paediatric diabetes specialist nurses, and Dan Stokes, a teacher at the school, who during an assembly taught youngsters about the amount of the sugar in every day foods.

Mr Stokes said: "The youngsters seemed to really enjoy it.

"We are lucky enough to be the only school in the West Midlands to be given the opportunity to get involved in this event - and the youngsters seemed to really enjoy it.

"They are inspiring children with diabetes, while giving youngster the chance to learn about their bodies - and what too much sugar can do."

Team Novo Nordisk also visited the Sixways Stadium for an awareness event during the Worcester leg of the week long tour.
