A WORCESTERSHIRE law firm is sponsoring a family rugby tournament being held at Droitwich Rugby Club.

The Summer of Touch Rugby tournament began last week with an introduction to proper touch rugby rules and is running every Thursday for seven weeks. The final day on July 19 will feature a barbecue and awards ceremony.

Thursfields Solicitors, which has its head office in Foregate Street, is sponsoring the tournament which has seen 12 teams enter including Droitwich 2nd XV, U14s Lads and Dads and the Worcester Warriors Homeless Sixteen.

Touch rugby is a version of rugby football where players do not tackle each other but instead touch their opponents using their hands on any part of the body, clothing or the ball.

Jessica Wheway, a solicitor in Thursfields' residential property team, said: “Thursfields is delighted to sponsor this event which provides both good fun and a way for people to increase their fitness.

"The event will be refereed by England Touch officials.”

Anyone not involved in the tournament but wishing to take up touch rugby can watch the Droitwich Touch team train on Tuesday evenings between 7pm and 8.30pm.
