THE OWNER of a home left empty for a year has been asked what they plan to do with it after a fire destroyed its garden fence and shed.

Ten-foot high flames reduced the fence and shed to ashes at the back of a home left to decay in Oldbury Road in Dines Green two weeks ago (June 12).

Councillor Richard Udall, who represents St John's, contacted the city council housing team who have since inspected the site and confirmed it is secure.

The council has also written to owner of the property to find out what they plan to do with the house and encouraging them to get the property back into use as quickly as possible.

Cllr Udall said British Gas had also visited the house to fix the gas supply.

He said: "Hopefully things are moving and hopefully it won't take long.

"There has been a lot of upset from the residents. People felt very vulnerable.

"I was there when British Gas arrived so hopefully that means things are starting to move forward.

"Hopefully a replacement fence can be put in place because anybody could get in the garden at the moment."

An 82-year-old resident described to the Worcester News how she was “petrified” after the fire.
