TRANSITION Malvern Hills is continuing its campaign against the use of polluting plastics.

Following a successful window display at the Tourist Information Centre, Church Street, members of Transition Malvern Hills attended the repair cafe at the Friends Meeting House in Orchard Road.

Ginny Lee of Transition Malvern Hills said: "We had a very positive response with people wanting to know more about how to start reducing their use of plastic.

"Some of the many points that were raised were about supermarket packaging as well as feeling unsure about which plastics are recycled within the Malvern Hills area.

"Our emphasis is on reducing the purchasing of goods with single-use plastic, for example fruit and vegetables, take-away-cups. Many people found our leaflet a great guide for helping highlight eight achievable ways of starting to make a difference.

"We are now on the second phase of our campaign, in which we will be attending many events over the summer to promote our leaflet and offer help and advice about alternatives to plastic goods.

"We will be at Colwall Ale House Festival as well as West Fest, promoting our campaign. This will be followed with visits to schools and a display at Malvern Cube and the Library.

"Although not on our leaflet, we are taking up the challenge of persuading dog owners to ditch using plastic bags for their dog poo and start using paper poop scoops."

"We are working with a pet store in Malvern to see if they will sponsor a dispenser for paper dog waste bags.

"We are in initial discussions with Malvern Hills District Council regards siting this in Priory Park. If we are successful we hope that these bags will be used throughout Malvern and the hills which may see the end of many of these little plastic bags and their contents hanging from our trees and hedgerows."
