GRITTERS are still on standby to fix melting roads as the city continues to bask in a mini-heatwave.

Temperatures in Worcester have been hitting the late 20s all week and are expected to stay there until Wednesday next week.

Four gritters and 300 tonnes of dust are still on standby to prevent roads from melting in the scorching weather.

The A449 at Mitre Oak in Hartlebury reopened on Wednesday evening (June 28) after it was closed for most of the day for 'dusting'.

With the scorching weather set to remain throughout the weekend, pop fans venturing to New Road on Saturday (June 30) will need to apply plenty of sun scream with temperatures expecting to hit 27C.

The all-day PopFest concert at Worcestershire County Cricket Club will feature pop superstars from the 90s and 00s pop including chart-topper Gabrielle who had a number one hit in 1993 with ‘Dreams’, Westlife’s Brian McFadden and Boyzone’s Keith Duffy performing as Boyzlife, East17, Chesney Hawkes, Louise Redknapp S Club, now known as S Club Three and Whigfield.

Exciting experiments and amazing astronomy will be on the cards in Malvern on Saturday for the free Science in the Park event in Priory Park.

An open-air laboratory will be open between 10.30am and 4.30pm for visitors to launch fizzy rockets, blow enormous bubbles, investigate light rays, launch a trebuchet, and mix colourful chemicals.
