TRAFFIC chaos near a Worcester tip has been described as "bedlam" by residents.

Residents say weekend congestion in Bilford Road, near Worcester Recycling Centre, is so dangerous someone could be hurt or even killed.

Sally Layton, of Bilford Road, said: "It is just ridiculous. We often come from a different direction so that we avoid the queues and there have been so many accidents, partly because the road is not wide enough. People going to Saturday football matches also park on both sides of the road and it causes bedlam."

She added that situation was exacerbated after an island was put in the middle of the road - making the route even narrower.

An anonymous resident of Bilford Road said: "The difficulty we have is people turning right because it backs up past here and stops people being able to get out. People have to go on the opposite side of the road because they can’t get by the traffic."

Malcolm Smith, of Portefields Road Road, said he feared someone could be killed.

He said: "Its absolute chaos. This is going to be an accident waiting to happen. The traffic is from the tip to the shop at the start of Astwood Road. Some drivers are driving on the wrong side of the road so they don’t have to wait in the queue for those who are waiting to go to the tip."

A spokesman for Worcestershire County Council said: “At peak times the site on Bilford Road, as with Household Recycling Centres across country, can experience high volumes. We ask that drivers remain patient and safe during this these times.”
