HUNDREDS of people have flocked to the River Severn in Worcester today to watch the annual charity dragon boat regatta.

Thirty-five crews made up of members of companies and friends battled it out for their chosen charity.

People watched the Race The Dragon action throughout the day from 9am to 5.30pm.

Chief crew liaison officer Jenni Henderson said: “It has gone extremely well. The races have been very tight and many groups are recording amazing times. Everyone is having fun and enjoying the event.”

Ed Sutcliffe, of Malvern Hills Round Table, said: “It is great fun. It’s really well organised and everyone is in a good mood.”

Susan Pakeeree, who was cheering on her daughter Natasha, who works at Fortis Living, said: “It has been good fun.”

Every year Worcester Dragon Boat Racing Club organises the event and trains up the competitors.

Members of the club are raising cash for Worcester Snoezelen, which offers multi-sensory leisure therapy to people of all ages with disabilities and additional needs.

There were also a selection of stalls for visitors to check out.

Competitively, the Worcester club has come home with trophies at every race so far this season.

They train three times a week on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6.30pm and Sundays at 9.30am, meeting at the top of the steps opposite the fountains.
