AFTER playing a leading role in a musical theatre group’s wardrobe team for more than 20 years, Christina Humphries announced this time last year, that she would be putting away her needles and pins for the summer’s production of Whistle Down The Wind as she had been elected the society’s president.

Christina was very pleased to become president of WODS - Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society - and she was especially overjoyed to see her first show from the audience, instead of being back stage at the ready with scissors and cotton last August when the group’s youth section - WODYS - presented Whistle Down The Wind at the Swan Theatre.

When interviewed last year, Ms Humphries said: “I am particularly pleased as this is my first WODYS show as WODS president and look forward to an enjoyable week. “However it will feel a little strange as I am normally heavily involved as joint wardrobe mistress. So, instead of working backstage, I will be supporting WODYS by helping with front of house and greeting everyone.”

She joined WODS in 1969 when she was 13 years of age. At that time, she attended Saturday afternoon dance classes run by Yvonne Barnes at the Friends Meeting House in Sansome Walk. Her first show was as a page boy in Quaker Girl during spring 1969. Since then up to 1995, she has have appeared in 35 shows, mainly as a dancer. Also during that time she has taken principal roles including: 1986 - Chicago as June, 1989 and 1995 - 42nd Street as Maggie Jones. She met her husband David, through WODS in 1972. They have been married 43 years and have two sons, who have also been members of WODYS and WODS, and three grandchildren who last year, were involved with WODYS. David Humphries is WODYS chairman and was director and producer of Whistle Down The Wind.
