POLICE are reporting an increase in house burglaries where televisions are being stolen, one of the raids taking place while the owners were asleep inside their home.

A Samsung curved television was stolen from Bearcroft Avenue in Warndon Villages, Worcester on June 30. Damage was caused to the garage door as the burglar or burglars gained entry. Car keys were to search the cars but the burglar did not steal the cars themselves. The occupiers were asleep inside at the time.

Another such burglary happened in Humber Road, Ronkswood on June 22 where the burglar or burglars gained entry through unlocked doors and stole two televisions.

A similar burglary took place overnight on July 2 in Bainbrigge Avenue, Droitwich where a television and mobile telephone were stolen.

DI Dave Knight of West Mercia Police said police were exploring the possibility that the burglaries were linked.

He said: “Anyone who has had their house burgled will know how devastating it is. Some people end up moving as a result of something like this. It’s a question of the public pulling together to be vigilant.”

He suggested installing CCTV and fitting alarms to help pro-actively prevent burglaries happening in the first place and said tackling burglaries was a priority and point of focus for the police.

In Worcester city burglary overall is down on last year. Last year between April and the end of June there were 82 burglaries. This year, over the same period, there have been 51.

Anyone with information about these burglaries can contact West Mercia Police on 101.
