A former Ravens Wood School pupil is living the dream in Las Vegas after giving up semi-pro football to earn thousands of pounds playing poker.

Billy Chattaway, 28, is currently in Las Vegas taking part in the 888poker World Series of Poker Main Event.

“I am still pinching myself this is happening,” Billy said.

“It is just amazing. It would be phenomenal if one of us won the main event and England brought home the World Cup.”

The former Sutton United player quickly learned he could earn more from playing poker than a normal nine to five job.

Before long Billy started earning between £3,000 and £20,000 per month by playing online six days a week.

His life changed in 2015 when he scooped £360,000 in two online tournaments.

He said: “I invested a large chunk of my winnings in a property which showed my family that I was being sensible with my money and that poker could be a genuine profession.

“I wanted to show that it was not a game or a hobby and that I could play and make money out of poker.”

He said his mum and dad always wanted him to get a “proper job” but have now accepted his career choice.

Billy is in Vegas with his brother Joe who is a London Uber driver.

After winning an online tournament he was rewarded with a $12,600 package which included a seat at the World Series of Poker tournament, flights and five nights at the Vdara hotel.

The poker player now lives in Keston after buying a two-bedroom cottage with his girlfriend.

The winner of the 888poker tournament could scoop a prize of £8 million.

Billy added: “My family haven’t asked for a percentage – but if I can go all the way and win the title, I will be more than happy to share my winnings.”
