WORCESTER Operatic and Dramatic Society’s Youth Section (WODYS) is in its final weeks of rehearsals for its forthcoming musical, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

The show will be staged at Worcester’s Swan Theatre from Tuesday, July 31, to Saturday, August 4.

The cast is set, of course, but the group has a training academy for youngsters on the waiting list to join WODYS , in the search for future stars.

A spokesman said: “The academy is called WODAC, and provides the youngsters, from eight years upwards, with an opportunity to develop their singing, acting, dance and stage craft by a mixture of workshop and performance experience, with one week in the Easter Holiday and another in the summer.

“A recent workshop saw the children take on a specially written short musical script entitled Rotworts Academy of Rotten Witches and Wizards, the Musical. A performance was staged for parents at the end of the week, with the youngsters performing a show which borrowed music from the West End’s Matilda, with a bit of Harry Potter and the Wizard of Oz thrown in!”

WODYS holds new membership auditions each September, and the group will continue to take new applications to join the waiting list and to take part in this year’s auditions up to mid-August. Parents can find more information at www.wodys.com or by emailing wodysmembership@hotmail.co.uk
