OVER 100 employees from npower’s Worcester and Solihull offices have tested their sea legs on the River Severn, paddling over 20km to raise over £20,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Crews launched from Stourport Boat Club, finally mooring at Worcester Rowing Club around three hours later. Although physically drained, spirits remained high as teams cheered each other on through the summer’s heat.

Senior Partnership Manager from Macmillan Cancer Support, Catriona Munn, said a few words before the crews set off:

“It’s great to see npower employees taking on such an enduring challenge to raise money for Macmillan. The number of people living with cancer in the UK is rising and so we greatly appreciate the continued dedication of our supporters at npower. The money raised will be used to provide Macmillan fuel grants to help people living with cancer who are struggling with their energy bills - this means they can concentrate on getting better.”

Customer Forecasting Analyst, Garinder Shankrowalia, who was on the winning team, said:

“The paddle was exhausting but we managed to keep going right through to the end – I can’t believe we ended up winning It’s great to partner with my colleagues to raise money for such a worthy cause.”

The completion of the row was celebrated back at Worcester Rowing Club. Prizes were awarded to the fastest crew and best dressed crews, with a musical ensemble of npower employees adding to the atmosphere of the evening.
