IT'S a regatta and tennis which we are featuring in our youth sport slot this week.

Martley CE Primary School entered a Bell Boating Regatta at Stourport-Upon-Severn Rowing Club.

The event saw more than 400 children and adults attending. It was extremely well run by AndyTrain, whose father David Train, Olympic Canoe Coach, designed the boats. The boats were designed to remove the fear of taking part in a water event if you are afraid of swimming.

Many schools all over Worcestershire took part and Martley CE Primary School were happy to win the Year 6 title, showing many of their school values, Co-Operation, Commitment, Courage and Compassion.

Meanwhile Herefordshire and Worcestershire 12U Girls headed for Wrexham for the County Cup with a team of captain Luke Pettit (Bromsgrove), vice captain Lucy Sanders (Malvern), Josie Ward (Bromsgrove), Caoimhe Guppy (Pershore), Bethany Pye (Elmley Castle), Sophia Jenkins-Howard (Stourbridge).

The first game saw Staffordshire brushed aside with the minimum of fuss, and then North Wales were also taken apart 4-0.

On day, Warwickshire were the opponents in the semi finals.

Josie came out a 4-2, 4-2 winner while Caoimhe rushed through a 4-2, 4-1 win to make it 2-0.

Sophia came out the wrong side of a match tie break 10-4 meaning 2-1 into the doubles where Josie and Caoimhe showed great battling qualities and reactions to get the win 5-3, 4-2.

Final opponents South Wales had GB players and grade 2 winners included.

At three, Beth put up a strong fight but fell short, equally the same for Caoimhe. Josie then kept the county side in the tie with a hard fought win 5-4 4-2.

Into the doubles and a 5-3 5-3 win meant that it was shootout time - the tie went back and forth where it was match point for and against before an eventual 12-10 success to the delight of Josie and Caoimhe on court and the supporters off court.

The prize was trip to the national finals in Bolton.
